Deactivating Connected Standby Feature

Follow these steps to deactivate the Standby feature and prevent your battery from draining too quickly:

  1. First of all, press the Win + R keys simultaneously.
  2. After a while, a run dialogue box will open. Then type the following keyword “Regedit” in the text bar of the Run dialogue box. 
  3. After that, tap the enter key to proceed further.
  4. Wait for a little, and you will see that a “Registry Editor” window will open.
  5. Then navigate to the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power” on the left-hand side pane.
  6. Then look for the “enabled” DWORD present at the right side pane.
  7. Then, double click it.
  8. Now, you have to set “0” as your Value Data, then hit the “OK” tab to save the modifications that you have made.
  9. Finally, perform a normal restart to your laptop; it might solve your system. Then check whether the problem is fixed or not.

Note that by disabling this feature, the “Sleep mode” feature will deactivate completely, but in this way, you will fix this battery draining issue.

Battery Drains Fast in Just a Few Hours

In case your laptop’s battery drains too fast as you have observed that it gets drained in just a few hours, you have to continue with a few of the steps. This issue could be fixed by using the power button.

To fix this issue, follow these mentioned steps:

  1. First of all, press and then hold down the power button at least fifteen seconds till your laptop shuts down completely. 
  2. This process will perform deep shut down operation to your system hard disk and lets your system to force shut down.
  3. It is only a workaround, and you will have to perform these steps every time you shuts down your system. 

Shutting Down the Laptop by Using Command Prompt

If you wish to shut down your system completely, then follow the following instructions:

  1. First of all, launch the Command prompt window. You may also use the “PowerShell”.
  2. Then type the following command to shut your system down: “shutdown/s” and press enter key,

You may also use the Run Dialog Box to launch the Command Prompt.

Fixing Battery Draining Issue by Deactivating Fast Startup Method

The “Fast Startup” feature is another way of troubleshooting the issue and it combines the function of both hibernation and shutdown. This enables your PC or Laptop to boot faster and quickly process your commands. 

To deactivate the “Fast Startup” feature, follow these steps:

  1. First of all, press Win + S keys simultaneously.
  2. Then enter the “power” tab.
  3. After that, select the “Power and sleep settings” option available in the provided search results.
  4. Navigate to the right side pane and go to the “Related Settings” section there.
  5. Then hit the “Additional Power settings” option.
  6. Next, a window related to “Power options” will launch on your screen. 
  7. After that, go to the left pane and hit the option which says “Choose what the power button does.”
  8. Tap on the option saying that the modification settings are not available currently.
  9. After that, deactivating the option “Turn on fast startup”. 
  10. Finally, hit the “Save changes” tab there.
