Ford recently decided that it will use Google’s operating system for its vehicles. The automaker is all set to use Android for its infotainment systems in millions of cars. It means that all of these vehicles will use Google Maps, Google’s voice-activated Assistant, and other such automotive-approved Android apps. All of these features can be used without using any Android device as they all will be available in Ford’s cars themselves.

The integration of Android with cars will make them smarter. The users can use Google Assistant to regulate the climate settings of the cars. Subsequent updates can be introduced to find out and fix maintenance issues with the cars before they get out of hand. However, the deal with Google does not imply that it won’t support devices from its competitors. Ford’s new system will still be compatible with Apple CarPlay and there will also be an option to use Amazon Alexa if someone prefers to use it.

As of now, there is no information on which vehicles, in particular, will use the Android Operating System starting 2023. Ford has only stated that there will be millions of vehicles around the globe that would use it- except for China which has banned Google. In addition to the operating system deal, Ford has also signed up for Google Cloud in a six-year partnership. Ford believes that Google is the right cloud provider to connect its vehicle services. They are also committed to creating a team called Upshift that will be tasked to find out new areas of innovation. It will have employees from both companies who will work together.

Team Upshift will try to use the talents of its employees to push the boundaries of the automobile Industry. They also plan to improve consumer experience using AI and other data-driven opportunities. This partnership has increased the influence of Google even more. The tech giant is already working with some of the biggest automakers like General Motors, Volvo, and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The present shift in the approach of these companies is interesting, considering there has been a sentiment to keep big tech companies at arm’s length. But it seems that automakers are rethinking their strategy.

Earlier it was believed that by letting tech-giant tap into the customer data stream, these companies can pose an existential threat for themself. But Ford has come up with a refreshing approach as it hopes to increase its sales by working with Google. There are millions of consumers who are waiting for a change in the in-car experience. They would love to have more technological advancements in cars. Ford is trying to do the same with its current deal with Google.

If experts are believed we are likely to see great innovations in the in-car experience of the future Ford cars. There are still some uncertainties that Ford and Google will have to work together to resolve. Their partnership might turn out to be the beginning of a new era in the automobile industry.

When it comes to purchasing light laptops there are some really good options like LG’s Gram 13, Asus’s ExpertBookB9450, Acer’s Swift 7, Dynabook’s Portege X30L-G. But all of these laptops are either overpriced or a step down in performance if compared to Acer’s Swift 5. The 2.31-pound laptop is one of the lightest on the planet and it comes with a real-deal processor which makes it ideal for a mainstream consumer audience. Acer Swift 5 costs $1,299.99 and is a solid all-rounder that can be used for multiple purposes. The laptop can surprise anyone with its performance despite its small size.

When it comes to the display of Acer Swift 5 the bezels have shrunk from the previous model, which gives the display a more modern appearance. The bottom bezel that used to hold Acer’s logo has been removed. The latest version of the laptop has a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent which is impressive for its price range. Although the 16:9 is a bit cramped the display is much brighter with great colors and contrast.

When it comes to connectivity, Acer has done a pretty good job as the device comes with one USB 3.2 Gen 2, two USB 3.2 Gen 1, one HDMI 2.0, one Acer’s AC port, and one combination audio jack. There is still some scope for improvement as the laptop should have included a second USB-C and SD card slot.

Swift 5 has an accurate and smooth touchpad along with a sturdy keyboard with comfortable keys. Below the arrow keys, there is a fast fingerprint reader which makes the laptop ever more impressive. The typing experience on the device is great considering the small size. There is nothing much to complain about when it comes to the touchpad or the keyboard, in fact, they are way better than expected.

One important thing to notice is the flex in the screen which can be because of the small size of the machine and its light build. Although it does not necessarily seem cheap but considering the price of the laptop Acer was expected to do a better job.

However, the most impressive thing about the laptop is the brand-new Tiger Lake quad-core Core i7-1165G7 processor. The chip supports some very recent features like Wi-Fi 6, Thunderbolt 4, and Iris Xe integrated graphics. The laptop comes with 1TB storage, and 16GB of RAM. The base model is priced at $999.99 and it comes with 8GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Both of the models are great but people who don’t need the laptop for graphic intensive work should buy the base model. The $1,299,99 model is a bit hard to sell considering Asus Zenbook which weighs 2.49 pounds, has similar features, and can be bought for $1,099.

The machine is surprisingly fast and it can be argued that it is the best in its price range. It does get a little warm on intense usage which is a little worrying considering the $1,299 model should have done better in handling overheating issues. The battery life was a little longer than expected. The machine lasted for more than eight hours. The pre-loaded applications were negatively affecting the battery life and once they were removed the laptop performed better.

The Acer Swift 5 is a midrange laptop and barring a few compromises it is the ideal laptop that you might be looking for. Most things like the screen, touchpad, keyboard, connectivity, and battery life works like a charm. If these aspects are something that matters to you and webcam, bloatware and audio do not bother you much then Acer Swift 5 is a good midrange laptop option. The lightweight laptop does more than what is expected from it. There is little to complain about so if you can compromise with some of its bad features then you should consider buying it.
